Unable to connect to a Windows Agent Print


Problem

After installing a Signiant Agent on a Windows host and selecting Status on the Agent Admin Configure windo in the Signiant Manager, the following message appears: 

54001 Unable to connect to port 49221: Connection timed out

Solution

Versions of Microsoft Windows after Windows XP SP2 install a personal firewall with the 49221 TCP port blocked. To correct the above problem, unblock this port.

To open ports manually using Windows Firewall, do the following:
  1. Click Start, click Run, in the Open field type wscui.cpl, and then click OK.
  2. Click Windows Firewall.
  3. On the Exceptions tab, click Add Port.
  4. In the Add a Port dialog, enter 49221 in the Port Number field, and then click TCP.
  5. Type a Name for the port and click OK. For example, type TransferAgentPort.
  6. To view or set the scope for the port exception, click Change Scope and click OK.
  7. On the Exceptions tab, the new service is listed. To enable the Port, enable the check box next to the service, and then click OK.
Note that 49221 is the default port. If you have configured the Agent to listen on a different port, you will need to open that port number in the personal firewall.

If you select the option to configure the Agent using the UDP control channel, you must make the same changes for UDP 49221. You also need to enable outbound traffic on UDP 49221 from the Agent to the Signiant Manager so the Signiant Manager can check the status and configure the Agent.
