Question

Why do I see the alert "either you have not logged in or session has expired" when I try to log into the Signiant  Manager GUI?

Answer 1

Your browser is unable to store the session cookie needed for the Signiant Manager GUI to function properly.  Check your browser's settings to ensure that cookies are enabled for the Signiant Manager URL.

In Firefox or Internet Explorer, select Tools > Options and select the Privacy tab. On this tab, make any changes required to allow the Signiant Manager to store cookies in your browser.

Answer 2

You are using Internet Explorer and the name of the Signiant Manager contains an underscore character.  Internet Explorer rejects cookies for hostnames that contain an underscore character. This occurs because the underscore character is not a valid character according to the DNS specifications. As a result, the session cookie required by the Signiant Manager GUI does not exist, which returns you to the login page.

There are a few workarounds for this:
  • Use another browser, such as Firefox.
  • Use the IP address to reference the page.
  • Use an alias name that does not contain underscores that points to the same IP address.
With any of these options, do not rename the Signiant Manager in an attempt to resolve this problem. The hostname is a vital component of the Signiant Manager installation, and changing it will cause it to cease functioning properly.

Additional Information

Search the Internet for +"Internet Explorer" +cookie +underscore for more information on how Internet Explorer handles these kinds of cookies.
