FAQ: Why do I get Transfer error "Permission denied" when writing to UNC path requiring an Active Directory user credential? Print

Question

I have configured my Windows Agent's Media Exchange "Package Repository Path" to point to a UNC path. The UNC share permits access to Active Directory domain users only. Why does the Agent fail to access the UNC share content in this configuration?

Answer

There are two reasons for the Permission Denied error:

1. The "User Access" "Jobs Runs As" username is no longer active or the password has expired. Make sure that the specified user may login to the Windows server hosting the Signiant Agent with the credentials and access the UNC share. If the Windows login is successful, recache the password with the Agent by reentering the password in the Password field of Jobs Run As and Apply the configuration.

2. The login credentials required to access the UNC share are Active Directory specified, and the Windows server housing the Agent software does not belong to the user's domain. In this situation join the server to the domain -  the hostname of the server will change and the Agent software needs to be reinstalled. After the Manager is able to communicate with the Agent, recache with the Agent by reentering the password in the Password field of Jobs Run As and Apply the configuration.
